FAQ

Where are you in the world?
I am in Auckland New Zealand

Why a CF Bedford van?
Why not? I personally think they have an awesome shape. True they weren't the best made thing on the planet and as far as mods go, they have none, but I like the shape. Custom Vans were big in the 80's, I was lucky enough to of been part of some of it. I often get asked why a Bedford, my usual response is either "Why not a Bedford".

Can I come see you/the van?
Sorry no, I find it hard enough to find time to get out in the garage and work on the van, the least distractions the better.

When will the van be finished?
How long is a piece of string? Originally I planned to have it done by mid 2005, now look what year it is. If someone wants to pay me to work on it and has a big garage with all the tools ... ;) Sounds a bit like a Tui ad.

Why is it taken so long?
Well, long story short, have had 3 relationships since I started this, one lasting a little over 2 years, she didn't like me working on the van, plus I had a motorbike at the time and spent a lot of time riding the curves. The motorbike took all or most of the weekends. And finally now, I sold the bike but am living in a different city to where the van is and can't get up as often as I would like. Although I would of loved to have of had the van finished years ago I guess I wouldn't really swap anything.

How can I see the van once it's finished?
I'll hopefully be taking it to a few shows, Kumeu, Puky and beach hop and hopefully a couple of van shows/events.

Where can I get CF Bedford parts?
This is a common question and is a hard one. The closest place I found is a wrecker in Hamilton (Frankton Auto Wreckers 127 Duke St, Frankton 07 846 0293) as they wreck Bedfords for the camper crowd. I couldn't find anyone in Auckland that has body panels, although Murray McQuiod (McQuiod Engineering beside pick-a-part in Avondale) does do mechanical and smaller parts (everything except body panels), as he was big into Bedford conversions (mtr box and diff). Trade me seems to always have something but watch the asking prices, a lot are over priced. Seems to be a lot of vans down Christchurch way. If anyone knows of any place that has parts etc please let me know and I'll list them for others.

You have this/that in a picture but you haven't mentioned it on any page, how come?
I have to keep a couple of secrets. Although I don't think anyone in their right mind would copy me ... Really it's either to small a bit to mention or it slipped my mind.

I have seen a CF Bedford in England that's been chopped and mid mounted, did you copy that?
No, I started this van before I saw that one, it has been brought to my attention and is a beautiful piece of work, would love to get more details on it. My van is different, mine has chevy mtr where as they have rover V8, I have IRS (jaguar) diff, they have leaf sprung 9in or 10/12 bolt or even cresta diff.

I found a typo
You're probably not the only one ;) I know my spelling sucks and I should use spell check more often, but most of these updates are spur of the moment things when I get a bit of spare time. Feel free to email me the typos or wait until the van is finished when I redo this site into more user friendly sections.

Questions never asked but one can always hope

Will you make me a van if I pay you lots and lots of money?
Sure, any shape, any size ... just as long as it's lots and lots of money.

We like your style, we have a 21 yr old virgin daughter whom we'd like you to marry
A 21 yr old virgin? Now this is really pushing it, but ok will play along. Does she have a trust fund, her own house with BIG garage and insists on having lots of customs cars and vans?

I'd like to donate some money to your build
Hey no problem, just said donations to me at .... oh wait, your not the tax man are you?

Contacting me

If you have a general inquiry or just want to say "hey", facebook is probably the best way to contact me.
Other ways to contact me are via B.U.G.A website (my username is busykiwi) or if you really really just want to email me use the contact page on the main site.
I enjoy getting your feedback but don't always have time or the answers you want/need for parts, contacts etc.
